Unseen Territories – Documentary Short
A Short Film directed by Sidney Galindo, produced by Elsa Cantu and Nick Carle, with Shahab Zargari as director of photography and original score composed by Alexander Pijuan-Galindo.
The film showcases art expression, identity and individual self-perception of local artists. This special screening will be followed by a live artist panel (Q&A) and UNSEEN TERRITORIES merchandise will be available.
More about the film:
Unseen Territories is a documentary and site-responsive exhibition that explores the entangled relationships between land, identity, and spatial memory. Situated on Southern Paiute territory in Las Vegas, Nevada, the project brings together 14 local BIPOC artists in acts of cultural reclamation and collective authorship.
Through personal flag-making, ephemeral interventions, and collective performance, the artists confront colonial iconography and its enduring imprint on public space. Unseen Territories doesn’t merely critique—it reimagines, centering ancestral knowledge, lived experience, and channeling authentic brown joy. It is both a refusal and a proposal: a curatorial strategy that opens space for belonging, sovereignty, and transformed public narratives.
Participating artists:
Alexys Quezada • Brent Holmes • Brian Martinez • Emily Sarten • Haide Calle • Hue • Isaac Roman Quezada • Jesus Orozco • Lance L. Smith • Luis Avila Chavez • Luvriot • Montaysia Sims • Naes Pierott • Xochil Xitlalli

“Sound was used effectively in this movie. There was haunting background music…and the noises used to represent Mir were also effective, as the bear cyborg was never pictured in the film. Sometimes, less is more and the sound effects really emphasized that point.” ― Leah McLaughlin, Nerd Girl Power
